    Breda's Story

My name is Breda Lynch, I am a qualified Psychotherapist and fully Accredited with the Irish Association for Counsellors & Psychotherapists. I have a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Holistic Counselling and Psychotherapy from ICPPD (International College for Personal and Professional Development).

I work in an Integrative/Humanistic way, which means that I use a variety of approaches, including Person-Centred, Gestalt, and CBT, depending on the client’s personality and the issues they are presenting with. I work with my clients in kindness and always at the client's own pace. Working from the belief that all human beings are unique and have the potential for positive growth, I aim to provide clients with a professional, non-judgemental, supportive and safe environment.

“Why did I become a Counsellor”? I feel this path was chosen for me. I was always the person people came to and always provided a shoulder to cry on and an excellent ear to listen to. I am a kind person and have always wanted to help people. Clients have told me that I am an easy person to talk to and people feel comfortable with me, this really helps in the therapeutic relationships with my clients.

I can relate to a person's grief and loss as I endured the pain and loss of my mother to cancer some years ago and the sudden death of my brother in a car accident.

Other areas of my work include working with people dealing with self-esteem issues, depression, anxiety, grief/loss, cancer support, suicidal ideation and trauma.

I volunteer with Vita House Roscommon and I have also volunteered with East Galway & Midlands Cancer Support Centre Ballinasloe and with St. Catherine's Counselling Service Tallaght Dublin.

I work on a one-to-one basis, with adolescents and adults.

  • How I Work

"I work in a caring, empathetic, supportive and non-judgemental way by providing support that looks at the whole person and by helping and guiding the client to find the answers that they have within themselves. I start by listening to you, giving you a safe and confidential space to be heard so as to explore your issues with understanding and compassion.

I believe in empowering the client and building a trusting relationship with them, assisting and guiding them to make informed choices and making sure they play the lead role in the therapeutic process, all the while at the client's own pace. I believe that a lot of the work can begin with the building of self-esteem and self-confidence and once these barriers are open, there are far fewer limitations on a person. I believe that counselling is the most worthwhile and kindest gift a person can give themselves and I am privileged and honoured to be a part of that process for my clients and be able to watch them become the very best versions of themselves”.

I provide a confidential & professional safe space for people who are looking for support & treatment for a wide range of issues and help them to explore their feelings and talk about their problems, challenges and fears. I can support a client to develop better-coping methods, facilitate healing and can provide structured support in assisting a client in bringing about positive change in their lives.

    FAQ    (Frequently Asked Questions)

    What happens in counselling?
Generally, you will meet for therapy regularly for about sixty minutes, usually at the same time once each week. The goal of counselling is to learn about our habits and patterns of feeling and behaviour and how they cause us problems. We can then learn new habits and patterns which will be more successful for us.

Counselling provides a special setting in which we can learn about ourselves enabling us to be more effective in our relationships with others and with ourselves.

How can counselling or psychotherapy help me?
Therapy provides you with a safe, confidential and supportive place to explore the difficulties you are facing in your life. It can provide long-lasting benefits, giving you the self-knowledge and tools you need to avoid triggers, change patterns that aren’t helpful for you and support you in whatever challenges you face.

Is medication a substitute for therapy?
It is well established that the long-term solution to mental and emotional problems and the pain they cause cannot always be solved solely by medication. Instead of just treating the symptom, therapy addresses the cause of our distress and the behaviour patterns that are not helping us.

In some cases, a combination of medication and therapy can be the right course of action. This involves working collaboratively with your medical Doctor.

    What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, you must notify me 24 hours before your scheduled appointment time. You will be charged in full for your scheduled session if you fail to contact me in advance. This charge must be paid before or at the time of your next appointment to continue in the counselling relationship. Exceptions are made in emergency situations only.
